Somewhere Northwest is for the explorers, the road-trippers, the sightseers who always take the scenic route.
Who don’t wait for summer or sunshine.
Who feel most at home among the trees.
Who simply can’t choose between the coast and the mountains.
Who love the spirit, energy, and mood of the Northwest in every season.
We share stories, guides, and travel ideas for people who want to go Somewhere Northwest.
The Story
The short version: I moved to the Northwest, fell completely in love with this beautiful place, and wanted to share a little of its magic with everyone else who comes to explore it.
The long version: It was February 2018. I booked a long weekend in Oregon and made my way to Cannon Beach.
The wind was howling and it was raining sideways. I could see one or two other brave souls off in the distance. My hair whipped across my face, and rain pelted the back of my legs, and my finger tips froze as took blurry photos of washed up jelly fish, old crab shells, and distant sea stacks.
I realized I felt alive. Really, truly alive, for the first time in a long time.
On the drive back to Portland, I realized what I already knew- I was home.
Since making Oregon home, I've spent years exploring the Pacific Northwest, photographing the places I find along the way, and sharing them online. Over and over, the response has been the same: shared appreciation for this beautiful, moody, magical place and “Where is this?!”
Those two responses are at the heart of Somewhere Northwest. Here, we celebrate and share the places that make this corner of the world so special.
Meet Rachel
I’m Rachel- photographer, writer, solo traveler, and the creator behind Somewhere Northwest.
Originally from Colorado, I moved to Oregon in 2018 and never looked back. I’ve spent the last eight years exploring and photographing the NW as much as I can.
I hope you enjoy going Somewhere Northwest as much as I have.
